Courses & Learning

10
Are the courses really free?
Yes, there is plenty to enjoy at no cost. The Free tier — articles, intro modules from every course, and the Sunday newsletter — costs nothing and never asks for a card. When you are ready for more, the Academy tier (£9/month or £90/year) opens up the full courses, end-of-course quizzes, and certificates you can share. And donations from kind supporters help fund teacher training and scholarships in Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana.
Helpful?
Do I need to create an account?
You will need a free account to enrol in courses, save your progress, and earn certificates. You are welcome to look around and read all 91 articles first, with no account needed. When you are ready, create your free account here.
Helpful?
How long do courses take?
Each course has 4 modules. Most learners finish a course in 4-6 weeks, studying a few hours a week. There are no deadlines and no rush — go at the pace that suits you.
Helpful?
Can I take multiple courses at once?
Of course. You can join as many courses as you like and move between them whenever you wish. Your progress is saved for you automatically. Browse all courses.
Helpful?
What topics do courses cover?
Our courses explore Black History, Caribbean culture, African civilisations, faith and community, understanding one another across cultures, and teaching resources. Compare all courses side by side.
Helpful?
Is there a recommended starting point?
A lovely place to begin is Roots of Resilience — our foundational course on the African diaspora, welcoming for newcomers and teachers alike. Or follow one of our Learning Paths for a guided journey, step by step.
Helpful?
Do courses include video?
They do. Each lesson includes video, text to read, and sometimes resources to download. You can slow videos down or speed them up (0.75x to 2x), and they remember your place — so you can pick up right where you left off.
Helpful?
What happens if I fail a quiz?
Not to worry. You can retake any quiz as many times as you need, with no penalty at all. There is also an instant feedback mode that shows you the right answer after each question, so every try helps you learn.
Helpful?
Can I download course content?
Where it is available, you can download PDF lesson content to keep. Video lessons stream online, so they cannot be downloaded for offline viewing just yet.
Helpful?
Are there assignments?
Some courses include written assignments that a real instructor reads. You can send in your written responses and receive helpful feedback along with your grade.

Certificates & CPD

4
Are certificates recognised?
Each certificate shows that you completed a proper learning programme, with quizzes and assessments along the way. It carries a unique verification code and can be shared on LinkedIn. It is a lovely addition to a CPD portfolio, though it is not an accredited qualification.
Helpful?
Can I use certificates for school CPD?
Yes, indeed. Each certificate carries your name, the course title, the date you finished, and a verification code anyone can check at our verification page — perfect for a CPD portfolio. Roots of Resilience is the foundation course, and teacher-specific modules are on their way.
Helpful?
How do I earn a certificate?
Finish all the lessons in a course and pass the final quiz — that is all it takes. Your certificate appears automatically, ready to view, print, and share from your dashboard.
Helpful?
Can I share my certificate on LinkedIn?
Yes. Every certificate page has a one-tap LinkedIn share button. You are also welcome to download it and print it to keep.

Account & Progress

7
How do I track my progress?
Your dashboard brings it all together — the courses you have joined, the lessons you have finished, your certificates, badges, learning streaks, and weekly challenges. Everything is saved for you as you learn.
Helpful?
Can I learn on my phone?
Yes, very easily. Everything works beautifully on phones, tablets, and computers. Watching videos, taking quizzes, and making notes all work on mobile too.
Helpful?
What are badges and streaks?
Badges celebrate your milestones — your first lesson, your fifth, a perfect quiz score, and more. Streaks count the days you keep coming back. Both earn XP that builds your level on the leaderboard.
Helpful?
Is my data safe?
Yes, we look after it carefully. We use Supabase to keep sign-ins secure (the same kind of protection banks use) and to store your data safely with row-level security. We never sell or share your information. You can read our privacy policy any time.
Helpful?
Can I delete my account?
Yes, whenever you wish. Visit Settings and choose the "Request Account Deletion" link. We will take care of it within 48 hours and remove all of your personal data.
Helpful?
What are learning goals?
You can set gentle weekly targets — lessons per week, minutes per week, or a streak to aim for — right from your dashboard. Goals make it easier to keep up a happy learning habit.
Helpful?
What is the daily reward?
Pop in each day and claim a little XP. The more days in a row you visit, the bigger the reward grows (5-25 XP). It all adds to your streak, your level, and your place on the leaderboard.

Helpful?

Everything is written or chosen by Sylvester Leader (Brother Sylvester), an Afrocentric educator born in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, on Saint Kitts — one of ten children and a twin — with 45+ years experience in education, including teaching, careers guidance and policy planning across the UK, the Caribbean, Uganda, Kenya, and Ghana.
